The situation in Ukraine.
At DDI, we are incredibly sad to see that Russia’s military is in the process of invading Ukraine. We see frightening images from the free country where buildings and civilians are affected while families and children are on the run. Our position is that what is happening in Ukraine is completely unacceptable and incredibly sad.
We would strongly urge the International Committee of the Deaf, ICSD, to consider sanctions against the Russian Sports Federation. Especially for the upcoming Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, Brazil.
We have had great sports experiences with Russian athletes and they are not directly responsible for this, but we can not stand and pretend like nothing. We must show that we are distancing ourselves from the Russian invasion and we condemn what is happening in Ukraine these days.
On behalf of DDI’s Executive Board,
Michael Weber Steenberg
